Hip Hop Dance
When there are battles and competitions they often take place on a yearly basis and attract huge crowds as people interested in the dance styles get together at these times.
A judging panel will be put in place. It will either be the judges or the audience that determine the winners of the contests, often a mixture of the judges and the audience.
Learning Hip Hop Dance
Those who are interested in learning hip hop dance routines can easily in this day and age find a hip hop dance class or hip hop dance videos to learn from. There are plenty around.
People interested in locking, popping or breaking may need to look a little longer in some cases in order to find somewhere to learn as they are more specialized styles.
A lot of these styles have an emphasis on a strong technical foundation due to the vast differences in the dance styles. So it is always good to start in beginners classes in these dance styles even if you are a good dancer already.
As with anything it may take a bit of patience in order to pull off the routines or techniques in whichever hip hop style you go for.
Often it is routines that will take the longest to assimilate and pull off, techniques can come a little bit quicker in many cases.
Hip hop routines (the newer styles) can have a steeper learning curve than many styles if the teacher or choreographer makes routines that are specific to certain songs and make use of musicality.
Due to the very precise timings, often you cannot just ease into the moves but need to know exactly what you are doing and when to do the moves.
That isn't to say that new style hip hop routines are any harder to do well than other dance styles. They all take great skill to do well. But there is often a slightly steeper initial learning curve with styles like breaking and hip hop routines.
So make sure you have the wait in you, it will feel real good when you get it because you have waited longer to even successfully pull off one routine. Or you might just be a natural and get it the first time!
